The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse
Illustrationcupboard Gallery is delighted to open the new season with an exhibition of Helen Ward’s original, watercolour illustrations from The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse.
Never before has there been such a beautifully illustrated version of this classic Aesop’s Fable. Magically retold through breathtaking watercolour illustrations, Ward brings out the deep contrasts between rural and city life, from the lush English countryside to the noise and bustle of 1930’s New York.
An award-winning illustrator with more than 20 books to her name, Helen Ward has achieved phenomenal book sales worldwide. With over 40 pieces of original artwork on show, Ward's sumptuous and richly detailed illustrations will take the viewer on a stunning visual journey from the colour of the countryside to the dazzle of the city. Her distinctive style approaches the natural world with a combination of astonishing detail, grace and integrity and her creative compositions and bold use of scale and space give a fresh face to this timeless tale.
In the upper gallery we will concurrently be showing original artwork from Helen Ward’s award-winning book The Tin Forest illustrated by Wayne Anderson; an eminent tale of renewal that was read by actor Jeff Bridges in the wake of 9/11.
Opening night private view and press reception on Wednesday 12th April, 5.30pm – 8.00pm where Helen Ward will be in attendance to meet visitors and sign copies of their books.
