Bears in Books

8 February - 11 March 2017

"It's nice having a bear about the house." Michael Bond, A Bear Called Paddington

From popular Paddington to classic Rupert, bears big and small have taken centre stage in countless children’s books throughout history. This unique celebration of bears in books brings together a diverse and exciting collection of original artwork from some of the best-loved bears in literature.

As part of the exhibition we will be celebrating 30 Years of Old Bear by Jane Hissey with a stunning selection of original published artwork from the beloved Old Bear series. We are also delighted to present for the first time a collection of original illustrations of Michael Bond’s Paddington Bear by Deryck Henley which has never been exhibited or made available for sale before.

Other highlights include artwork from world class illustrators such as David McKee, John Prater, Anita Jeram, Victor Ambrus, John Harrold, Brian Wildsmith, Anthony Browne, Jill Murphy and Christopher Wormell.
