Juan Wijengaard
Though of Dutch origin, Juan Wijngaard was born in Argentina and attended art school in England. Landing his first comission whilst he was still a student, his career has since taken off, and he now produces his delightful works from his airport hangar studio in California. His magical illustrations for Sir Gwain and the Loathly Lady by Selina Hastings, first published by Walker in 1985, was winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal and displays the richness of decorative detail that is also seen in Sir Gwain and the Green Knight, as well as in other work such as The Midas Touch and Shakespeare’s Globe. He enjoys experiementing with new artistic styles and materials, venturing also into the field of canvas painting.
