Sue Heap biography
Sue Heap trained at Hull and for several years after this she worked as a designer, first with the Oxford University Press and then with Walker Books where she designed for Julia MacRae. She was, however always drawn to illustration and in 1990 made the change, becoming a successful artist. Her first picture book was Fraser`s Grump, since when she has done books for a varietyof publishers.
She has worked with Nick Sharratt, both on illustrations for Jacqueline Wilson`s novels and on picture books, the most recent being Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly (Viking 2003). She has also illustrated texts by Diana Hendry. Princess Dress, Space Dog and Hairy Fairy are among her creations for Scholastic and this year Walker Books have published Four Friends in the Garden and Four Friends Together. In l998 on a trip to the US she fell in love with the Western Desert and this gave rise to Cowboy Baby (Walker) which won the Smarties Gold Award.
She is at the moment working on Handbag Friends (a book in the shape of a handbag) for David Fickling Books.
Sue who lives in Chipping Norton has many interests, one of them being a passion for motorbikes, both ancient and modern.
